Walking tour of Cologne’s WWII history and legacy

Cologne is widely acknowledged today as a beacon of diversity, tolerance and acceptance within Germany. However, during the rise of the National Socialist era, the city fell under the sway of the regime's burgeoning power. It wasn’t merely an inactive backdrop to this period but became actively entwined in ways moulded by years of ideological pressure and control.

This tour delves into Cologne’s WWII history, chartin how the conflict evolved within its streets, the motivations fuelling the regime at that time, and how perilously close those aspirations came to reshaping Europe and the broader world at a staggering human cost.

As you uncover memorials dedicated to those oppressed under the regime and visit sites linked to wartime events, you'll gain a more profound understanding of Cologne’s part in this challenging chapter of history. You'll also witness how, from the ruins of that era, a dynamic and diverse contemporary culture has sprung forth.
