About Taranto
Taranto is a coastal city of Apulia, and it's also known as "city of two seas" for its special geographical position between Mar Grande and Mar Piccolo, surrounded by a diverse and beautiful natural landscape. Taranto still bears traces of its long and rich history: you can still admire the monumental Doric columns of the Temple of Poseidon, the only remaining heritage of the Greek colony of Taras, the antiquities in the National Archaeological Museum, the splendid Romanesque Cathedral of the 11th century dedicated to St. Cataldo with its byzantine frescos and the imposing Aragonese castle built in the 15th century in order to defend the mainland from the attacks of the Turks.
