About Tenerife
Welcome to the splendor of volcanic Tenerife – an island of epic national parks, amazing sea life, beaches of many colors and enough activities to satisfy any traveler. It’s especially good for families and nature lovers. You won’t be bored in Tenerife. The diving and snorkeling here is excellent, with whale-watching and turtle-spotting just two of the options. There are numerous cruises (both scenic and alcohol-fuelled) and even a tourist submarine if you prefer your fish through a window. Hikers will love the forests and craters of the UNESCO-listed Teide National Park and Teno National Park. Kids, meanwhile, are likely to love Siam Park, a colossal aqua park with the kind of slides and drops that encourage delighted screams. Loro Park is reminiscent of Jurassic Park: a feast of exotic animals, with parrots, killer whales, dolphins and sea-lions. When night falls, take the family to a medieval banquet at the genuine castle in San Miguel for some swordfights, jousting and excessive consumption. Food and wine here are excellent (as befits a volcanic island). A good place to try them is at the World Heritage city of La Laguna, or at the scenic towns of Tegueste and Candelaria. Bring your appetite (and a camera).

One of Tenerife's first Spanish settlements, Taganana is also one of the most remote villages on the island. On this trip, it's just one of three scenery-packed locations you'll visit, alongside Anaga Country Park. Jonay, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Anaga Country Park is unique, and it's been listed by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. It's home to one of the last primeval laurel forests in the world. This mystical forest, known as Laurisilva, is characterized by ancient laurel trees, ferns, mosses, and other endemic plant species.'In maximum groups of just 30 passengers per trip, you'll travel in a fleet of minibuses to discover hidden Tenerife in style. Up until the 60s, the fishing village of Taganana, where sugarcube house cascade down towards the ocean, was only accessible on foot or by boat. These days, a winding coastal road connects it to the rest of the island. We'll continue up the coastal road towards the whitewashed village of Taganana and an optional lunch of regional delicacies in an authentic, traditional restaurant. In the afternoon, you'll drive through the mountains to the Anaga Country Park with its deep ravines and forests, a landscape that has remained almost unchanged since the Iron Age. Jonay adds, ‘Anaga's ancient forests are a haven for rare flora and fauna such as the Tenerife blue chaffinch and Bolle's pigeon. There are several species unique to the island.
With coastal roads, towering cliffs and valley-nestled villages, Tenerife's west is a joy to explore. On this tour in comfortable minivans, you'll go through a roll call of all the must-dos – local product tastings, exploring Teno Rural Park and visiting picture-postcard villages. Arianne, one of our expert guides, says, ‘You'll unearth the geology of Tenerife's past, discovering impressive landscapes along with the island's history and culture.'It all begins in Icod de Los Vinos. A guided tour of the town takes in its centuries-old dragon tree – located in a park that's more like a botanic garden – traditional colonial-style architecture and a sampling of some local products. Then, it's on to the hard-to-reach ‘lost village' of Masca. Precariously perched on a ridge overlooking a rugged gorge, it's one of Tenerife's most jaw-dropping sights.Next, you'll head down to Garachico on the coast, and discover why it's known as the ‘prettiest and unluckiest' town on the island. Stroll by its famous lava pools and see the historic castle before a lunch made from locally sourced ingredients in a family-run restaurant. It's an ideal setting for savouring Canarian cuisine. The afternoon sees you exploring the jagged peaks in craggy Teno Rural Park. It's famed for its laurel and pine forests as well as its exotic flora, so breathe in deeply for the full experience.
