Overview

Book this evening ghosts and ghouls walking tour to discover Edinburgh's haunted side and the Blair Street Underground Vaults before a dram of whisky.

Highlights

  • This is a multisensory storytelling experience with scents and sounds of Edinburgh's past
  • In the underground Megget's Cellar, settle your nerves with a dram of Scotch whiskey and with more tales
  • This is a small group experience with a local storyteller for a more personal experience
  • You'll enjoy exclusive access to Edinburgh's notorious Blair Street Underground Vaults
  • Take home the experience with an exclusive Tour Playlist!

The evening begins with a stroll through the dark closes and wynds of Old Town Edinburgh before descending into the haunted Blair Street Underground Vaults, where the scents and sounds of the past come alive. Finally, you'll retire to a candlelit cellar for a dram of Scotch whisky and an intimate evening of storytelling by candlelight.

Lose yourself in the cries and taunts of a once-roaring crowd of thousands, baying for the blood of two men. Take your place as a member of the “Edinburgh mob”, which once surged in riot past the Mercat Cross (the meeting point for the evening).

Listen to grisly tales of witchcraft, torture and restless spirits as you venture down medieval closes and descend into the haunted Blair Street Underground Vaults of Edinburgh, exclusively with Mercat Tours. Hear the distant clatter of workmen and whispers of criminals as you're immersed in the atmosphere of the past.

Your cloaked Master Storyteller will lead you through the dimly lit caverns, recounting stories that you would swear are too horrific to be true — and yet, they all are.

As night thickens, you'll gather together in Megget's Cellar for a whisky — or if you're not fond of a dram, a glass of locally-made beer or soft drink. In the warmth of candlelight, your Storyteller will conjure more tales of Edinburgh's ghostly, ghoulish past, and the tortured souls that still stalk the city's streets.
